ThroughPlay Projects

ThroughPlay is a multimedia parent-education program on the importance of play and flow experience (i.e., states of deep absorption) for child and adult development. The centerpiece of the program is a multimedia presentation that weaves together developmental science and the creative arts of photography, film, dance, design, and music.

The ThroughPlay program is currently being implemented and assessed in two funded studies. The first study is supported by the Sorenson Legacy Foundation and includes parents who have children in Montessori early childhood programs. The program was presented for the first time on October 4th, 2016 at Elizabeth Academy in Salt Lake City. You can learn more about it and find photos and videos here. We plan to expand ThroughPlay to a diverse range of early childhood programs in the near future. If you would like more information, please contact us

The second study implementing ThroughPlay focuses on the family health benefits of outdoor play in natural Utah environments. It is being supported by the Kendeda Fund and involves military families associated with Hill Air Force Base. The first ThroughPlay in Nature program was presented on May 16th, 2017 at Hill Field Elementary in Clearfield. Learn more about it here and find a video of musical highlights here.
